My lighting scheme is all about ease and flexibility. Each room has two to three layers of light. The most important layer ambient lighting, in this case is a drum fixture to give off soft light. My second layer is downlighting. I use two applications for downlighting. Recessed cans, which are rotatable for the ease of being able to aim them as you rearrange furniture. The other option is track lighting. I chose an attractive “loft” fixture design while still being very functional. The purpose is to be able to highlight different features of your home and the option to change the emphasis constantly. The last layer is decorative fixtures to add character to each room. The design concept is a mix of mid century modern and organic contemporary. Lots of wood finishes, geometric and organic shapes blended together. Lastly each layer is either dimmable or switched in two locations making it very convenient. As for daylighting skylights weren’t an option because of the second story so keeping the area around the windows clear to let in the most amount of light is our best option.
